Mike had an incredible personality.
We became close friends in in the middle '50's. we would roam the rail road tracks for miles looking for soda bottles to cash in. On a good day we could make over a dollar each; our best location was right behind the Farris Press, in an area that had a lot of "day labor" union hiring halls, where the men tended to have a drink or two while waiting for job. The would buy a quart bottle of 7 UP, pour half out .and fill it back up with booze!
We would race for the empty bottles!
On one of it the worst days of my life mike extracted me from an untenable situation, witch I will always remember and be thankful for. He showed great courage, Mike sved m a lot of grief that day.
Her was an exceptional basebaall player, and it was only his size that prevented from playing other sports.
What a great guy.
