I was at the DMV one day back in 1971. John was there renewing his license. I asked to see it, he flashed it to me. Then I said, “Trees!” John swore and said why did I show you my license, I have hidden my middle name this long. So, his devotion to the Sierras and the forest service predate his middle name. Bet you didn’t know that.
