Bob Louth was my best friend since kindergarten. While post-high school our lives moved apart and back together, we always came back together.

Bob seemed totally serious and low key, but inside there was a bit of a crazy man.

His story of “riding the laundromat dryer” while at U of O in Eugene.

When I built my first house at Donner Lake, we decided we could take down a 100’ pine ourselves. First step, Bob climbing up 60’, tying himself off and topping it.

Then there was house #3 we built together. See attached photo of non-OSHA-approved scaffolding.

My wedding was family only, plus Bob and his wife Sandy.

When I finally got around to building my own house, 40 years ago, I was out of the “trade”, so Bob built it for me. I’m still there and am continually impressed with the quality of the construction. It was an act of love.

He and Sandy moved to the Trinity Alps around the millennium and we lost touch. That was a great loss. I was not with him at the end and that has been one of my greatest regrets. I think of him all of the time.
