Carl was a member here at this site before his passing. Here is part of what he posted: "married & divorced after 9 yrs to first wife. married second wife 35 yrs ago. started own business in 1978 & sold it in 2008. retired & happy."

Below is a slightly edited portion of his obituary:

"Carl Edward Hillstead was born on May 16, 1945 in Bremerton, WA. His family soon returned to Williston, ND, where they had originally settled after emigrating from Norway. His family then moved to San Mateo, CA when Carl was eight years old. Carl worked for the Cummins, Watson, and Meehan Engine Company and soon became a master diesel mechanic. Carl eventually ventured out to form his own business, Bay Counties Diesel Service, located in Fremont, CA. He successfully owned and operated his business for thirty years until 2007."

Carl was survived by his wife, 3 children, and 2 grandchildren.
