Rich passed away in Burbank (Los Angeles County). The details of his death are unknown. Rich was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Leonard Norman Wistreich and Geri Wistreich. Note that there is a spelling difference in the last names between the parents and Rich. Ancestry.com shows both of the two different spellings for the father.
At the time of his death, Rich left behind 3 siblings. One brother, Ronald, was born in 1958 and died in 1990 in Los Angeles County. It does not appear that Ronald attended Aragon as a class photo for the years 1976 to 1981 could not be found. His mother, Geri, died in 1986 at the age of 56 in Los Angeles.

He was voted "most talented male" in the senior poll for his singing and acting skills.
