About | Carl died in Placer, California from a heart attack. He was married to Gerilyn and had a son, Scott, from his first marriage. Carl endured the effects of high cholesterol throughout his life, and that is what led to his early death. Carl was best friends with Steve Hellman (see his obit info here under the 1971 class) since grade school. Steve died from a brain tumor, along with Sid Roberts who is also listed here under the 1970 class. Carl's brother, Dennis, succumbed to a brain tumor, too, and is listed here under the 1969 class. They all lived in the Parkside area during their school years. Carl and I shared an interest in flying. We had fun building and flying model airplanes in grade school and later in life, we both owned airplanes and flew often. As teenagers a typical Saturday morning found us fishing for striped bass behind the old drive in movie theaters in Burlingame, or hunting ducks on the bay in a kayak. Carl's girlfriend and first wife was Carla, who lived next door to the girl I first married, Sharon Peek. Married life and making a living took over and so later we drifted apart. Years later I was talking on the phone with Carl who'd call to say he'd married again and had bought a home in Los Altos when suddenly he slammed the phone down. I never heard from him again and I believe this is when he had his last heart attack. Carl had one brother, Dennis, and three sisters, Corrine Lee, Sandra Lynn, and Laura. Sadly, as far as I can tell, all are deceased now and many to cancer. It's really sad to know so many of my friends and neighbors in Parkside have all pass away so young.
