Walter Roy Crosby passed away at 7am on Friday, April 17, 2020. He had been in failing health for a number of months and although heroic procedures were tried and he fought until the end, he could not regain his health. We are relieved that he is no longer in pain and we are comforted by all his wonderful kindness and the memories we shared with him through the years. We thank the medical staff and all who helped him each day in Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Cambridge.

Walter was born at Middleboro Hospital on November 22, 1958. He attended Lakeville Elementary Schools and Apponequet High School. He attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating MIT in 1981. In 1978, while an underclassman at MIT, Walter became one of the founding members of the MIT football team. He has remained an avid fan ever since, attending most of the season's home and away games every year. Outside of football, Walt's other big passion was for sailing. He was immensely generous and loved to give anyone interested in sailing the opportunity to learn on his beautiful boat named Yoroshiku, which in Japanese means "Pleased to meet you." Walt enjoyed working for the past 10 years as the Head of Fund Management Systems at Arrowstreet Capital.

Walter was the son of Walter A. and Gerel (Washburn) Crosby. He leaves a family who he was devoted to: His mother Gerel Washburn Crosby, his son Ted Crosby and daughter Anna Crosby, his sister Geri Young and her four children David, Steven, Andrew and Sarah, his wife Beth Weinberg and her children Alyssa and Julie, along with many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and long-time friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Barbara Condon Crosby, who passed away in 2015. Walter was well-loved and will be hugely missed.

We thank you all for the kind thoughts and prayers you have expressed to us all during these difficult months. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we will hold a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers please send any donations to The American Kidney Fund in Walt's honor.
