Class Gift

Appleton East has just become a Project Starfish School. Project Starfish is funded by donations, which are granted to students in needs. Students apply for a grant for something they need – bus pass, money to participate in a field trip, instrument rental fees, etc. and then they “Pay It Forward” somehow within the East community.
More information on Project Starfish is below.

We are asking Alumni groups that may be interested in giving back to East to consider a class gift to Project Starfish. Please feel free to contact East if you have any questions.

Thank you!

PROJECT STARFISH
…One Matters

Mission: Project Starfish narrows the achievement gap by providing needy students resources they otherwise would not be able to obtain on their own. Through grants and private donations, identified students are provided with items such as school supplies, program fees, bus passes, toiletries, etc. to help them more actively engage in their school experience. In return, the student recipient is expected to “pay it forward” with volunteer service at their school. Giving back to their community will provide the student valuable life lessons and help build the child’s self-esteem.

Vision: That all students have the means to pursue a wide variety of learning opportunities. Project Starfish removes barriers so all students are able to reach their full potential.

THE STARFISH STORY

Early one morning a young girl was walking on the beach when she noticed thousands of stranded starfish. To save them she began tossing them, one at a time, back into the ocean. When a passerby told her she couldn’t possibly save all the starfish, she tossed one into the ocean and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one.” Inspired by the little girl, others came to help. Together, they made a difference.
