About	Staff Sergeant Stevon A. Booker, 34, of Kiski Township died Saturday (April 5, 2003) of injuries sustained during combat in Baghdad, Iraq. Born Sept. 16, 1968, in Detroit, Mich., he lived in Kiski Township before enlisting with the Army in 1988. He was a 1987 graduate of Apollo-Ridge High School. Staff Sgt. Booker was a tank commander on active duty with the A Company 1-64th AR 3rd Infantry Division. He most recently was stationed at Fort Stewart in Hinesville, Ga., before being deployed to the Middle East in Sept. 2002. He served in the Persian Gulf War and, in Dec. 1999, earned the Army Achievement Medal for meritorious service as a M1A1 tank gunner. Survivors include his father, George Booker of Blairsville; his mother, Freddie Jackson of Kiski Township; and a sister, Kimberly L. Booker of Lower Burrell. He also is survived by a nephew, Alexander Booker of Lower Burrell; an uncle, David (Alicia) Booker of New Kensington; two aunts, Rev. Osalie (Ernest) Patterson and Rev. Linda L. Hargraves, both of New Kensington; two great-uncles, Emmett and Robert Johnson; two great-aunts, Emma Malone of Washington Township and Arlena Bracy of Avonmore; and a number of cousins. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday in CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME INC., 100 Owens View Drive, Apollo. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Apollo, by the Rev. Matthew Wilson. Family and friends are to meet at the church. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, Avonmore. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Stevon A. Booker Memorial Fund, c/o Apollo Trust Company, P.O. Box 247, Apollo, PA 15613.
