About Thomas A. Kennedy Sr., 77, of Buffalo Township, Sarver, passed away at 4:45 p.m., Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Jefferson Township. Mr. Kennedy was born in Girard, Ohio, on Dec. 30, 1927, the son of the late Alexander and Ella (Feist) Kennedy. He worked as a band director at Freeport Area High School and Apollo Ridge High School for over 40 years. After retiring from teaching, he worked for a number of years as a ranger at the Buffalo Golf Course, Sarver. He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman in World War II and was a member of the Natrona Heights American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Delmont Community Band, Slippery Rock Directors Band, Canton Ohio Community Band and the Youngstown University Alumni Band. He enjoyed the music of John Phillips Sousa, big band music, golfing, veggie and fruit gardening and carpentry. He dedicated his life to bring music into the lives of the youth and the disabled. He is survived by his son, Dr. Thomas A. Kennedy Jr., of Whitenburg University, Springfield, Ohio; and a daughter, Zoe Anne (Robert) Scott, of Penn Township. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria E. (Kauffman) Kennedy in 1992. Friends and family are being received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High St., Freeport. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. John Kuert of the Evangel Heights Assembly of Good Church, Buffalo Township will officiate. Burial will be in Girard City Cemetery, Girard, Ohio.
