About	Major Thomas "Tom" J. Neis (USMC Ret.), 53 Dumfries, VA Formerly of Waite Park Nov. 9, 1960 - Aug. 19, 2014 Thomas James Neis, Age 53 of Dumfries, VA and formerly of Waite Park, MN died August 19, 2014. A memorial mass will be held at 9am on Friday, August 22, 2014 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waite Park, MN. Private burial with full military honors will be at a later date in the Minnesota State Veterans cemetery near Camp Ripley. Tom was born November 9, 1960 in St. Cloud, MN. Tom is survived by parents, Jim & Mary Neis of Waite Park, MN, siblings Tracy (Tom) Masanz, Karen, Michael (Heather) and three nephews and many other loving relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and niece Noelle. Tom earned his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from SCSU, and his M.S. in Management-Information Systems from the Florida Institute of Technology. Tom retired from the United States Marine Corp in 2003 as a Major after serving 21 years. He served as a commanding officer in Desert Storm/Desert Shield. He was most proud of his service with the Marines, defending his country and interactions with many high officials. After his retirement, he worked as a Strategic Planner and Information Operations Analyst for multiple contractors in the Washington, D.C. area. Tom loved to hunt and fish with his father, grandfather and brother. He was a master woodworker and poured a lot of that love into his projects. He was the envy of his neighborhood with his landscaping abilities. His love of nature emanated through all parts of his life. The Neis family would like to give special thanks to Vince DuBois, his former Commanding Officer; Dr. Diane Sauter, Miss Li-Ann Chen and many Marines from the Mid-Atlantic Region that provided support, comfort and friendship during his short courageous battle with cancer. Also, special thanks to Heartland Hospice and Quiet Oaks Hospice House for providing a loving and comforting place for Tom in his final days.
