About Me | Take action. The journey to find your lost self begins with a single step. I am a little crazy, well maybe more than a little. I love poker, even though it drives me crazy at times. The Cubs are my obsession (please, 104 years is long enough! yes, I am already assuming they will win nothing next year either), I am slightly competitive, and maybe, just maybe a little sarcastic... Jim’s Philosophies of Life and Poker 1) Don’t be stupid. 2) Think before you act. 3) Trust your gut. If you think you are beat, you probably are. 4) Never be afraid of a tough decision. If you are wrong about it, step back and learn from it. 5) Never fall in love with a hand. When that one thing happens that makes you think your hand is not good anymore, it makes it that much harder to let it go. 6) No excuses, no regrets, no fear. Everyone makes a mistake, learn from it. If you think/know you made the right play, and it just doesn’t work out, never regret what you did. Do not be afraid to put it all on the line. There is always tomorrow. 7) Know your limits, physically, mentally, and emotionally. If you are down on any one of these. Take a break from the game, whatever it may be. 8) Know what you are up against. It makes decision making easier. 9) Everyone has a tell. Use it to your advantage. 10) Reach for the stars, challenge your self to do something you have never done before. Play 2-7 off suit like AA, play against a pro, try a game you never have before. When it works, learn something. When it doesn’t, learn more. 11) Everyone does something for a reason. Can you figure out what it is? 12) When the time is right, lay it all on the line, but you cannot wait forever to take that risk. 13) Have a support system of friends. Have them there to share you ups, and commiserate with your downs. The game may change, but good friends will always be there. 14) If you think you have reached a dead end...change the game...(read more) |
