Well, back in 1970 when I decided to become a full time touring musician/ singer/ songwriter, I decided my "real name" was just too awkward. After several trial name changes I ran into a guy named Denver Garrison. It had such a "ring" to it, I decided to legally change my name, retaining the "Joe" in the middle.
