About	Buried in the Euto Baptist Church Cemetery New Salem, Union County, North Carolina, John M. “ Butch” Thorne, Jr. died December 2, 2003 in Beaumont, Tx after a long illness. He was 54 years old. Born in Rock Hill, S.C. in 1949, he moved with his family to Jacksonville in 1958. After graduating from Andrew Jackson High School in 1967, he attended N. C. State. Active in his church, Trinity Presbyterian, he led the Youth Group and was also active in Boy Scouts. He moved to Texas in 1978 and graduated from Lamar University in 1986. At the time of his death, he was employed by Radio Shack. Surviving are his wife, Christina Hoy Thorne of Beaumont; his parents, John and Odie Thorne of Jacksonville; one brother, Kenneth (Leslie); and one niece, Erin, all of Ocala, FL. Also a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 13th at 11am at the Northside Presbyterian Church, 1901 Leonid Road in Jacksonville with the Rev. Betsy Haynes officiating.
