About | Cremated It is with great sadness that the family of Wallace “Steve” Smith announces his passing on Monday, July 16, 2018, at the age of 68,.after a courageous battle against cancer Steve will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 17 years, Claudia Smith, and his children: Chris, Jonathan, Dustin, Kaitlyn, and Jason. He will also be forever remembered and adored by his grandchildren: Hayden, Sara Kate, Christian, Aislyn, and Brady. Steve was loved by many and held his friendships close to his heart. Steve was born in Jacksonville, FL to William and Ernestine Smith, on August 7, 1949 and lived there all of his life. After graduating from Andrew Jackson High School, he earned a basketball scholarship to Saint Leo University and became the first member of his family to graduate from college. Until his final months, Steve ran Smith Appraisal Group, a successful real estate appraising company in Northeast Florida, for over 20 years. Steve’s passion in life was time well spent at a ballpark. Jacksonville’s Drew Park softball complex was not big enough to hold his home run swing or his personality. Steve’s impact there will forever be felt in the dugouts and in the hearts of those who shared the field with him. If Steve wasn’t playing softball you could find him coaching kids on a baseball diamond. He coached baseball and taught life lessons to every kid that played for him. To Coach Steve, the game didn’t end after nine innings, as he cared deeply for every single kid that played for him. Though Steve played and coached his final inning, his memory will live on in the legacy of his family and in the many lives he touched. |
