When Jean arrived in Anacortes 1955, her father was transferred from Illinois to the Shell refinery. They moved into Broadway not far from my home on 36th and Commercial. She was introduced to picking strawberries at Al Green's fields. She never consumed one strawberry. Unbelievable. Jean and I had one goal and that was going to School of Nursing fall of 62. We attended different schools but we came out same time as a graduate nurse summer 1965. AHS Class of 1962 held the 10th reunion August 1972 the Elks. I really didn't want to attend but Jean and her husband Walt drove by and picked me up and away we went. Jean should get the award of that evening, because I went with them, I met my future husband Keith Halgren. We did not see her in the later years. Karen Halgren
