About | On August 20th 2014, Lloyd Haven Samford passed away at the age of 74. Lloyd was born June 18th, 1940 in Athens, Ohio to his parents Mabel Elizabeth Garrison and Clarence Douglas Samford. He lived in Wyoming and Illinois for parts of his childhood. He attended high school in Illinois where he excelled in athletics especially football and basketball. He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a master's degree in Shakespearean literature. He married his college sweetheart, Melissa Jane Chenoweth in 1962 in Carbondale, Illinois. The young couple moved west to both begin teaching careers. Lloyd was a loving husband, father, linguist, athlete, coach, risk taker, world traveler, avid reader, sports fan, teacher, mentor, chili cook off award winner, and quick witted individual. He loved cross word puzzles, sunshine, bocce ball, Elvis music, grilling, and summer. He taught high school English for over 36 years and was admired, respected and adored by his students. He is survived by his daughters , Lisa Pacheco and Andrea Lander; son-in-laws, Craig Pacheco and David Lander; four grandchildren, Brandon Sowden, Zachary Lander, Kameron Pacheco, and Maxwell Lander; brothers, Lynn Samford, Lester Samford, John Samford. He is proceeded in death by his wife of fifty years, Melissa Jane Samford and his parents Mabel Garrison and Clarence Douglas Samford. A celebration of life service will be held on September 14th at 10:00 at the Triology clubhouse in Brentwood.
