New Local History Book -Avalon Hall Square Dancing

Herman R. Nagle has recently self-published another local history book detailing the history of the Avalon Hall on Avalon Road in Altoona - 1955 to 1968. This book as all others written by Mr. Nagle has been turned over to the Blair County Genealogical Society for their benefit..

Two new books self-published for local history buffs!

Herman Nagle recently self-published two new history publications. "Dear Aunt Rose" details letters that his Mother received from relatives and friends during the First World War and the 2nd World War. "Great Uncle Ed" reviews the history of his Great Uncle, Edward Gallagher who was in the US Navy from 1897 to 1927. During these 30 years he was in the Spanish American War and the First World War. Both books were turned over the Blair County Genealogical Society for their benefit. They are for sale at the Society in Hollidaysburg, PA>

Herman R. Nagle - Class of 1956

Herman Nagle recently signed over the rights and profits to all four of his Altoona Memories Scrapbooks to the Blair County Genealogy Society in Hollidaysburg. Since 2006 Herman has self- published the Altoona Memories Scrapbook of Growing Up In Altoona, (500 plus pages) the Altoona Memories Scrapbook of Baseball (500 plus pages),
the Altoona Memories Scrapbook of Bowling (150 Pages) and the Altoona Memories Scrapbook of Musical Memories (500 plus pages.) The Musical Memories book was researched for Herman by Jim Daski-Class of 1955. It includes several chapters about old Altoona High School music instructors and musicians. including John Monti, Russell Bohn, Dorothy McGregor, Darwin Bistline, and Dick Potter. Several years AHS Annual Shows are highlighted for the readers interest. Featured are dance bands of the area, jazz bands, rock & roll bands, Altoona Symphony, Altoona Choral Society, the 28th Division Military band and much more. All four books are available for sale at the Genealogy Society near the Dream Restaurant on Scotch Valley Road. Many folks say they sit down for a quick read through in the evening and just can't put the book down as it goes from one interesting subject to another. Dr Thomas B. Lane

Dr Thomas B. Lane a 1958 graduate has published his second book titled Reading and Understanding the Gospels: Who Is Jesus, What He Teaches, and the Beginning of Christianity. His first book was titled Reading and Understanding the Old Testament: The Foundation of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. A third book is in process titled Reading and Understanding the Acts of the Apostles, the New Testament Letters, and the beginning of the Church.
