Josephine (Lombardo)Spagnola
Class of 1939
Josephine recently celebrated her 101st birthday.Born in Reggio Calabria,Italy,Josephine and her family came to America in 1929 and lived in Juniata Gap for many years. Her father,P.A. Lombardo was a well-known stone mason who built many of the memorial stone obelisks in Altoona,as well as much of the stonework at Horseshoe Curve. He also worked for two years on the construction of a church in Juniata Gap,presently known as Mardorf Methodist Church.Josephine performed professionally in California until she was 89,and taught voice until last year.She is the recipient of many arts awards and has a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Fame.
