A couple of years ago I was recruited by those in my town who knew me as someone who could do a little something with a pencil to 'help' with murals within the town's middle school (of which two of my children were students at the time). The lady who suggested my help started to draw out scenery in the entryway, but was suddenly called away. This left me to continue alone that day...and the next...and the next. The entryway turned into the hallway; the hallway turned into the bathrooms; the bathrooms continued back towards the front and into the offices. Fast forward 500+ hrs of volunteer work and two years and I was finished (says me...before I was wrangled into the next buildings). I'm proud of my service to the community (though I don't think my kids cared), as well as to the family of a little girl whose likeness I painted in the entryway (due to her untimely demise). I couldn't meet them because at the time, it was too intense to see their reactions, but they were very appreciative; which made me extremely happy.
