Len Joined the Navy immediately after graduation. After earning his Bachelors in Civil Engineering he was commissioned in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps and served on active duty for 28 years. He retired in 2000 as a Captain.

Entered the U. S. Army August 1970. Combat vet Vietnam War. 10 years as a Recon Scout and 11 years in the Military Police Corps. Retired as Command Sergeant Major of the 787th Military Police Battalion in November of 1991. Awards include The Purple Heart, Meritorious Svc Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal, Parachutist Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, Sergeant Morales Club Member, Recruiter Badge, Distinguished Honor Graduate U. S. Army Drill Sergeant School, Graduate Class 33 of the Sergeants Major Academy. SVC 21 years and 3 months.
