Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Akron. Military honors will be conducted by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Visitation with the family present will be Friday, February 20, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be his family and many friends.
Douglas Edward Mackey was born March 16, 1951 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Francis and Frances (Scott) Mackey. He attended school in Akron until moving to Sioux City.
He enlisted in the United States Army on December 22, 1969. He served his country during the Vietnam War. While in the service, he received his G.E.D. He was honorably discharged on January 19, 1972. Following his discharge, he returned to Sioux City.
Doug began his career as an over the road truck driver. He started out driving for local trucking companies before becoming and owner/operator for many years.
He was united in marriage to Cora Mason on June 28, 1980 in Sioux City. They made their home in Hubbard, NE until 1997, when they moved to Akron. He retired from trucking after his health began to fail.
Doug was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Akron. Through the years, he enjoyed gardening, playing cribbage and pool, grilling, and Christian music. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Cora of Akron; a daughter: Leanna (Roger) Collins of Cherokee, IA, and their children: Douglas Mackey, Mariah Collins, Samuel Collins, and Zacheriah Collins; a son: Jedediah Mackey (special friend, Laura Sanow) of Le Mars, Iowa and her daughter: Chloe Sanow; a son: Mason Mackey of Akron; his siblings: James (Randi) Mackey of Le Mars, IA, Ronald (Sandi) Mackey of Gilbert, AZ, Julie Moriston of Onawa, IA, Kathy Nichols of Onawa, IA, Cindy (Jerry) Osterholt of Onawa, IA, and Steve (Teri) Mackey of Sioux City, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson: Austin Collins; and a close friend: Mert Beeck.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Associated Church in Hawarden with Rev. Dan Lozer officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday, with the family present beginning at 5:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Jeanette Elizabeth Trometer McPherson was born on May 19, 1926 to Andrew and Leota (Bogner) Trometer in rural Union County, West Akron, SD. She attended country grade school and graduated from Akron High School in 1944. She worked as a bookkeeper until her marriage. She married James A. McPherson on November 30, 1949. They made their home in Hawarden, Ia; constructing their home from the basement up. She was a member of the Associated Church. Jeanette was an avid quilter and enjoyed jig saw puzzles and crossword puzzles. She died peacefully at home at the age of 88 years.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Judy and Bill Scott of Hawarden, Patricia and Scott Smetter of Lincoln, NE; and Pamela and Randy Smith of Sioux Falls, SD; and a son, Jerald McPherson of Beresford, SD. Grandchildren: Sheri (Jeff) Ahern of Grimes, IA, Matthew (Jessie) Scott of Yankton, SD, Mark (Dawn) Scott of Hawarden, IA, Michelle (Bryan) VanWyhe of Ireton, IA, Julie Smith of Minneapolis, MN, Brandon Smetter of Lincoln, NE, and Levi Smetter of Lincoln, NE; 3 great granddaughters, Emma VanWyhe, Meagan Scott, Claire Scott; and 4 great grandsons, Aiden Ahern, Jackson Ahern, Carter VanWyhe, and Sean Scott; one brother in law, Fred (Sharon) McPherson; sisters in law, Vivian McPherson, Darlene McPherson, Darlene McPherson and Barb McPherson; and many nieces and nephews.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James (4-20-04); brothers, Merlin Trometer and Melvin Trometer; sisters, Blanche Trometer, Alice and husband Ken Harvey, Iona and husband Bill Clarey, Neva and husband Jim Hawks and Marilyn and husband Herman Titus; mother and father in law, Jessie and William McPherson; brother and sisters in law, Gen and Elmer McMillan, Donald McPherson, Milo McPherson, Dorothy and Bill Harvey, Ray McPherson, Alma and Pierce DeJong and Bruce McPherson; and infant grandsons, Craig Scott and Christopher Scott.
Great-grandson Carter told his mother, “We’ve had Grandma Jeannie for a long time, it’s time to give her back to Grandpa Jim.”

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Westfield Congregational Church in Westfield, Iowa. Pastor Barry Miedema will officiate. Burial will follow in the Westfield Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2015 at the Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron.
Nicole Sue Vrana was born September 7, 1982 in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Douglas and Renee (Cummins) Vrana. She attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron-Westfield High School in 2000. She attended Mitchell Technical Institute in Mitchell, South Dakota, graduating with a degree in culinary arts.
Nicole lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she was the restaurant manager at the Holiday Inn. Later, she moved back to Westfield. She worked for Cody’s Homestead in Elk Point.
In 2008, she married Nathan Thielvoldt. They made their home in Meckling, South Dakota. They later divorced.
Most recently, Nicole was working at the Coffee Cup Fuel Stop near Vermillion.
Through the years, Nicole enjoyed shooting trap, listening to country music, attending rodeos, camping, and fishing. She also enjoyed cooking and riding on the motorcycle. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Survivors include her parents, Doug and Renee Vrana of Sioux Falls, SD; her sister: Darla (Jason) Schulz of Hartford, SD and their son, Brady; her fiancé: Chad Mowry of Alexandria, SD; her uncles: Mike Vrana of Sioux City, IA, Ray (Ivy) Cummins, Joe (Mary) Cummins, and Marvin Cummins, all of Casper, WY; and a special great aunt: Velma Knudsen of Akron, IA.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Harold and Marlys Vrana; her maternal grandparents: Pierre and Helen Cummins; and her paternal great grandmother: Laura Ross.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 26th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Father Daniel Guenther will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. with the family present from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. with a prayer service to follow at 5 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.
Pamela was born on June 11, 1954 at Akron, Iowa to Gerd & Phyllis (Clarey) Ludwigs. She graduated from Akron High School in 1972 and then attended Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City graduating with a secretarial degree. She was married to Jerry D. Beazley on November 19, 1977 at Akron, Iowa. She had been a resident of Cherokee for over 30 years and prior to this had lived in Sioux City for six years and was originally from Akron, Iowa. Pamela had worked for Coil Craft in Hawarden, Zenith Corp. in Sioux City and for Hardees in Cherokee. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee and had taught Sunday school and C.C.D. She enjoyed crocheting, but most important to Pamela was her family.
She is survived by her husband Jerry of Cherokee; her daughter Chrissy and her husband Jason Overmohle and their children Dylan and Evan of Hospers, Iowa; her son Trent Beazley and his wife Savana of Columbia, Missouri; her parents: Gerd and Phyllis Ludwigs of Akron, Iowa; two sisters: Jeannie Frerichs and her husband Roger of Akron, Iowa; Vicky Hohlbaugh and her husband Johnny of Kansas City, Missouri.; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ed and Lila Beazley of Correctionville, Iowa.
