Donald L. Schmidt passed away on March 2, 2019. He was a Professor of Political Science at the University of Nebraska, Kearney, Nebraska. He graduated from Colorado State University earning a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in 1963 and 1965 respectively. In September 1965 he became a member of the faculty at Kearney State College , now known as the University of Nebraska where he taught courses in Political Science for 32 years. In 1967 the United States office of Education awarded him a graduate fellowship for studies at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln campus for his Doctoral work during the 1967-68 academic year.
Don retired reluctantly, from teaching in 1997 because of health issues, later diagnosed as T-cell leukemia resulting from exposure to chemicals while serving on the USS Iowa during the Korean Conflict.
