About Me | Since graduation I moved on to eventually attend CU-Boulder and graduated in in 1974. I was always interested in land use growth and the planning and policies and economies which drove the profession. Even more I was interested in how people got around in the hay-days of the automobile. So I became a transportation planner specializing in bicycle and pedestrian planning. Since walking is our most common mode and I love to bicycle it was a good fit. I moved on to Graduate School in 1978 after doing an internship in Paonia Colorado where I Studied water, growth, the environment and rural land use. I had already married and had a child born in 1976 before I finished graduate school. Matt was born premature at 2 ½ pounds and has grown up to be a fine father himself. He lives in Portland Oregon. My marriage did not survive so I move on to practice my planning in Pueblo, Colorado from 1985 to 1994. I co-founded the Pedal Pueblo Bicycle Club and taught bicycle safety and led rides till I left. I has always wanted to leave Colorado so I found a job teaching bicycle and pedestrian safety for Clark County in Las Vegas. I learned how to ride in the heat and found what it was like living and working in Sin City. Met some good people there yet my contract job did not survive. I then decided to move back to Colorado where a transportation planning managers’ job awaited me. Fortunately I met the love of my life in a Divorce Recovery workshop there and Caroline and I were married at Lake Hotel in Yellowstone in 1998. We her daughter Abbey we settled in another hot city of Tucson were I did more regional bicycle and pedestrian planning and volunteering for the Greater Arizona Bicycle Association. Yes Tucson is hot yet the bicycle climate is spectacular and we lived there for 8 years. My last year was working for Saguaro National Park as a Transportation Scholar with the National Park Foundation. What an experience. I then moved on to one of my favorite places anywhere, Bisbee. Yes Bisbee Arizona which is located around 100 miles SE of Tucson. Bisbee is an old copper mining town and sites at a mile high so it has climates. What a great place that I would like to go back to especially to retire and the housing prices are real low there. I worked for the County Manager as the Transportation Planning Manager. Al was well yet I got another move on bug in me and decided to take a job in Transportation Safety at the Federal Highway Administration working for the Department of Transportation in Washington DC. So we moved from small wonderful mile-high Bisbee to Washington DC. My folks had lived there in the 1970s when Dad worked for the Defense Department. After near 5 years with USDOT we decided to go back home after seeing much of the east coast (except for Newfoundland Canada where I lived as a child). We visited NYC often to see our son Tim and learned a lot of things about the Civil War and the East Coast. So now we are back home in Colorado where much of our family still lives. I’m working part-time with FEMA on natural disaster relief as Caroline does substitute teaching for elementary and high school and granddaughter Kiya enters her sophomore year at Arvada West. She’s in the marching band, the orchestra and just studying hard to be the best student she has always been. Were happy to have her with us and confident this A student will do very well. We’re glad to be back home and although Co...(read more) |
