| About Me | From early eighties to late nineties, I worked as a systems administrator (UNIX, MacOS, Windows) and network security manager, first in Berkeley, then in San Jose/Silicon Valley, then in San Diego. In the late nineties, I shifted directions a bit. I was hired to be assistant editor of an internationally known knitting magazine. Three months after being hired, I was promoted to managing editor overseeing several magazines. A year later, I was chosen to start up a web magazine, including thrice-weekly blog postings, free pattern library, tutorials, tips, online community, instruction, and eventually, an online store. I worked for a year planning the site; designing the logo and stylesheets; determining with senior executives and publisher the style ("look and feel") for the website; designing graphics; setting up the web server; configuring the software; and back-filling the site with content. When it went live, I served as Editor/Chief Blogger/Community Leader for several years. I stepped down upon moving to Ontario, Canada, due to spouse's job transfer. For a while, I continued blogging for the web magazine. Since then, I have worked as a freelance teacher, speaker, editor, writer, designer, and textile artist. STUDIO WORK: Design and tailoring of garments; colour theory; yarn design; beading and jewelry work; art bead pieces; quilting; hand embellishing; mixed media. TEACHING/SPEAKING: National conferences, guilds, retreats, shows, and local events. WRITING/EDITING: Technical articles, essays, columns for both online and in-print media. Example: I was asked to do an interview of a well-known spindle maker for an online publication. I did the interviewing, took photos, and shot videos. I then organized, wrote, edited photos and video, combing all to work as an "interactive" piece tailored for the particular online publication.
