| About Me | I’ve been an English teacher, founded a robust school newspaper (thank you, Mr. Weiss. Your journalism class saved my life and I am thrilled to pass it on) and creative writing program. Then became a high school counselor and later a high school principal. Moving on, for the past 20 years I have worked with high school kids to improve learning and socializing, educational opportunities and life goals, in both public and private schools through a non-profit that does college-access counseling with first generation, inner city, low income students. We help our students get into both public and private universities with full scholarships. Ninety-five percent of our students graduate in four years; 35 percent go on to grad school. Our secret sauce? We stick with them all the way through. We provide air flights, winter clothing and support in various ways for their families so our students can stay in school when things at home make them consider dropping out and taking a job to help the family. This program is 30 years old and has helped our grads become doctors, lawyers, social workers, teachers, engineers and architects.
