What is Luke Montz known for?

Luke Montz, born on July 7, 1983, in Lafayette, Louisiana, is an American professional baseball manager and a former catcher. An alumnus of Acadiana High School, Montz went on to have a commendable career in professional baseball.

Montz, who bats and throws right-handed, was initially drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 17th round of the 2003 Major League Baseball draft. From 2003 to 2008, he worked his way up from the Rookie League to Triple-A. He made his major league debut on September 4, 2008, for the Washington Nationals.

His MLB statistics include a batting average of .163, with 2 home runs and 8 runs batted in. After his time with the Washington Nationals in 2008, he shifted to Oakland Athletics in 2013. He played a total of 23 games in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the two teams.

After playing, Montz transitioned to coaching, and in January 2019, he was named manager of the Lowell Spinners, Boston's Class A Short Season affiliate in the New York–Penn League. In January 2021, following MLB's realignment of the minor leagues, he was named manager of Boston's Class A affiliate, the Salem Red Sox. He managed Salem for two seasons before leaving the Boston Red Sox organization in October 2022. In January 2023, Montz was named the manager of the San Antonio Missions, a Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres in the Texas League.

Today, Montz, his wife, and their two daughters live in his hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana.
