Retired as Chief Petty Officer (Yeoman, Surface Warfare Qualified) with 24+ yrs of active duty. Had recruit training in late 1969 to early 1970; assigned to Torpedoman's Mate School Staff, Orlando; then USS CHEHALIS (PG-94) at Little Creek Virginia; then Fighter Squadron 31 (VF-31 - the Tomcatters) at the Oceana Naval Air Station, Virginia; followed by assignment to the staff of the Commander, U.S. Atlantic Fleet HQ in Norfolk. Assigned to Instructor duty at Yeoman school in Meridian, MS; followed by a 3-year tour aboard USS CONNOLE (FF-1056) in Newport, RI; then back to Great Lakes on the Staff of the Service Schools Command; then back to sea duty with the Seabees of NMCB-62, based in Gulfport, MS. They were decommissioned in 1989 and I was then assigned to Fighter Squadron 142 back at Oceana again. Rotating back to shore duty, I finished my career as the Chief Administrator on the staff of Recruiting Area 5 at Great Lakes, retiring in late 1993. All in all, I wouldn't trade it for the world.
