Colonel Jeffrey P. Holder

Colonel Holder entered the Marine Corps through the PLC program completing Officer Candidate School in Aug 1980. In June of 1982, he graduated from Georgia State University where he received a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and was commissioned a 2ndLt on 8 July, 1982. After completing The Basic School at Quantico, VA in December 1982, he was ordered to flight training at NAS Pensacola, FL, and was designated a Naval Aviator in May 1984. In July of 1984, 2nd Lt Holder transferred to MCAF Camp Pendleton, California for AH-1 Cobra training at HMT-303, MAG-39.

After completion of AH-1 training in November of 1984, 1st Lt Holder reported to HMLA-269, MAG-29 at MCAS New River, NC. He made numerous deployments with HMM-365, HMM-263, and HMM-162 and served as Frag Officer with MAG-29. He was promoted to Captain in August of 1987. He held numerous billets throughout this tenure to include, Legal Officer, Assistant Logistics Officer, Flight Officer, NATOPS Officer, Marine Corps AH-1T Model Manager and held all flight instructor designations in the AH-1J/T Cobra helicopter.

In November 1988, Capt Holder transferred to the Selected Marine Corps Reserve and joined HMA-773, 4th MAW, NAS Atlanta where he served as Assistant S-4 Officer, Flight Officer, Assistant Operations Officer and NATOPS Officer. In Nov 1990, he was mobilized and activated with HMA-773 for Operation Desert Shield/Operation Desert Storm in support of MAG-50, 5th MEB.

In April of 1992, Capt Holder attended the Aviation Safety Officer course at the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, CA and joined the Marine Corps Reserve Full Time Support (FTS) program with the MAG-49 Detachment, NAS Atlanta. Captain Holder was initially assigned as the DOSS/Safety Officer, AH-1/OV-10 NATOPS Officer, and MAG Training Officer. During this period, he was integral to the transition of the MAG-49 Detachment to HQ, MAG-42 and with the redesignation of HMA-773 to HMLA-773 as UH-1 helicopters were integrated into a new Light Attack helicopter squadron. He was promoted to Major in August 1994. Maj Holder was subsequently assigned as the MAG-42 Assistant Operations Officer in Jan 1995.

In May of 1997, Major Holder transferred to MAG-49 HQ, NAS JRB Willow Grove, PA to stand up and commission the new 4th MAW Light Attack Helicopter Squadron, HMLA-773 Detachment Alfa. He initially assumed the duties as MAG-49 Operations Officer for a short period and the OIC for the HMLA-773 Detachment. Maj Holder was then reassigned as the MAG-49 site Aviation Maintenance Officer for HMLA-773 Det A and HMH-772 in October 1998 with maintenance responsibility and oversight of a combined total of 19 aircraft (AH-1W, UH-1N and CH-53E). He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in June 1999.

In July 2000, LtCol Holder was transferred and returned to NAS Atlanta and assumed the duties as Site Commander/Executive Officer, MAG-42. He was integral to the preparation of and first 4th MAW activations of MAG-42 personnel and units in the deployment and augmentation of OIF/OEF combat forces in 2003.

LtCol Holder was transferred and reported to Marine Forces Reserve, New Orleans LA in July 2004 and was assigned as the MFR G-7 Inspector. He was promoted to Colonel in September 2004. In August 2005, Colonel Holder was reassigned as the Assistant Chief of Staff G-3, 4th MAW, New Orleans, LA.

In July 2007, Col Holder transferred to U. S. Joint Forces Command, Norfolk, VA and was assigned as the Chief, Reserve Support Division, Joint Reserve Directorate.

Col Holder retired from the Marine Corps 1 Sep 2010.

Colonel Holder’s personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Combat Action Ribbon. Colonel Holder has logged over 3700 accident free military flight hours in rotary and fixed wing aircraft.

Served in a variety of roles and missions culminating as the Directed Energy Branch Chief while in Cheyenne Mountain AFS. Served multiple roles as an XO/Deputy Commander. Held two company commands and a battalion command (2-362 FA). Had assignments with both Army and Navy SOF & USMC RECON units; flew as the Deputy Commander of JSTARS aircrew; and did a tour with Recruiting and with the German Army.
