Marine Corps, 6 Years

SERVED IN VIETNAM FROM 1965-66, 1ST 3RD MARINES, 3RD MARINE DIVISION. WOUNDED BY ENEMY TWO TIMES (2PURPLE HEARTS) HIGHEST AWARD WAS CROSS OF GALANTRY, AND 12 OTHER MEDALS. I WAS PROUD TO SERVE MY COUNTRY. I BECAME 100% DISABLED IN 1985 DUE TO WOUNDS, AND P.T.S.D. DUE TO WAR. WE LOST 33 MEN IN OUR COMPANY, AND MOST OTHERS WERE WOUNDED. WE WERE THE 1ST MARINES TO GO TO VIETNAM, AND WENT BY SHIP AS A BATTALION, AND WE SERVED TOGETHER AS A UNIT FOR 8 MONTHS BEFOR VIETNAM, SO WHEN WE LOST A MARINE IT WAS A CLOSE FRIEND, AND A GREAT LOSS TO ALL.

Army, 20+ Years

Entered the Army in Nov. 1965, going to Basic training At Ft. Dix.
Then on to Warrant Officer rotary Wing Flight school. Departed for Vietnam as an Army Warrant one helicopter pilot in Jan. 67 and returned to the states in Jan 68,
Awarded the Bronze Star, 18 Air Meals and various campaign medals. Instructor new aviators at Ft. Rucker for 18 months and got married to my High School sweet heart Jane LaForest (Class of 69) . Retuned to Vietnam for my second tour in 1971 as a Cobra Pilot and then UH-1 pilot. Flew missions through out Vietnam and Cambodia. Total of 41 Air Medals
Left Active Duty in 1972 and later joined the Kentucky National guard. Job opportunity came open to fly in Louisiana and moved there is Sep. of 1978
Transferred to the Army Reserves. Activated in 1991 for Desert Storm but stayed in the US doing drug interdiction In New Mexico rooting out pot growers. Retired from the Reserves in 2006 at age 60 but not for long. After 9/11 I volunteered to return to active duty. After all being born in the Bronx they had attacked my home town.
In May of 2008 I was recalled to join the 34th Combat Aviation Brigade and one week after my 62 birthday I was on my way to Balad Iraq as a CW-4 Assistant Aviation Safety Officer for Task force 34. Returned May of 2009 and slipped gracefully back into the ranks of the Military Retired. Was awarded two Meritorious Service Medals plus the War on Terrorism Campaign and War On Terrorism Service awards. Two Years later I retired from my Civilian job after becoming somewhat disabled by the effects of Agent Orange.

Our Rancocas Valley High School military alumni are some of the most outstanding people we know and this page recognizes them and everything they have done! Not everyone gets to come home for the holidays and we want our Rancocas Valley High School Military to know that they are loved and appreciated. All of us in Mount Holly are proud of our military alumni and want to thank them for risking their lives to protect our country!
