Class of 1968
Navy, 4 Years

Enlisted April fools day 1969. Basic at San Diego, CA
Aviation Electrician "A" School Jacksonville, FL.
Transfered to 6th Fleet aboard aircraft carrier USS Wasp CVS 18, V3 Division. Positions included tow tractor driver & plane director. I served as plane director on both the hanger deck and flight deck. I loved working the flight deck. especially at nights when you know a jet is coming in but you can't see it until it hits the deck. what a rush.
Transferd from the Wasp in late "71" when she was decomissioned, To VS24 "Air Anti Submarine
Squadron 24" as a plane captain for S2G Viking Aircraft. Stationed at Quonset Point, RI. The same base where the Wasp was ported and the same place where the USS Intrepid CVS11 was ported. The ship that the squadron was attached to. On both ships we sailed to every port in Europe, the Mediteranian sea, The Artic Circle, and the Carribean. And most ports on the Eastern US.
I really enjoyed my tour and I would have made it a career if it wasn't for all of the negative crap we got whenever someone knew you were in the service. I left as an E4 in March of "73" regretable.
I am proud to say though that both of my sons are makeing a career of it. Josh is a SSGT with the 79th Fighter Squadron at Shaw AFB SC. with 3 tours in the middle East and Travis is a SGT with the 40 Tansportation CO at FT Lewis WA. Travis just finished his tour in the Suni triangle in Iraq.

Class of 1978
Army, 25 Years

Initially joined the US Army right out of high school. Got out after my first tour five years later as I wanted to concentrate on my education, earning a BS in Criminal Justice at UNO in 1987. Did some time with the USAR and got out a couple times before going back to active duty, eventually retiring in 2015. Of course, hanging around that long, you get to do a lot of travelling. As an investigator and instructor, have been to/worked in more than half the States at one time or another and about 15 countries. Toss in a couple deployments and the frequent flyer miles can pile up a bit. Was also privileged to meet and work with some of the best people I've ever known. My best to all who've served; making the choice to put this nation and its people ahead of themselves. Despite our "problems" still the best country ever.
