Feb. 13, 1969 to Dec 10, 1972. Honorably discharged as an AZ-3, (E-4) before I could sew on my E-5 rank.
I married in 1968 before I joined the Navy. We were together for around 8 1/2 months before I enlisted. (Counting those same months), on our third anniversary we had actually been together, one year, one month and one week.
I have been married to the same sweet gal for 40 years this July.

Army Lieutenant Colonel Jayson A. Altieri began his military service in 1984 as an enlisted soldier in the 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division. In 1989, he graduated from Norwich University’s Military College of Vermont and was commissioned as an Army Aviation Second Lieutenant. He has served as a Battalion Commander, Company Commander, Platoon Leader and Staff in various assignments with the 82nd Airborne Division, as well as units in Ecuador, Iraq, Korea, and the Panama Canal Zone. In 2003 and 2004 respectively, Altieri graduated from the U.S. Air Force’s Air Command and Staff College and the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies. He has also served at the National Geo-Spatial Intelligence Agency as the Deputy Director’s Executive Assistant. His last operational assignment was as the G5, Combined Joint Task Force - 82, Bagram, Afghanistan. He is currently assigned to the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. Altieri is a contributing writer to The Armed Forces Journal, Armor, Proceedings, CAP Volunteer, and many Mid-Atlantic Regional Newspapers. He is married to the former Miss Shelle Elizabeth Wheless of Raleigh, North Carolina. They have two children, Isabella Grayce, age 8 and Jayson Jr., age 5. Major Altieri’s hometown is Roanoke, Virginia.
