Honored Military Alumni
David Ehlers
Class of 1976
Air Force, 20+ Years
Chief Master Sergeant David Ehlers entered the military the summer after HS - stayed 4 years then moved back to Neligh where he farmed and did a few other things. He re-enlisted almost 2 years later and enjoyed a career filled with many experiences – retiring in 2007.
David had numerous (18) assignments and also saw a lot more of the world during temporary jobs.
He also held a variety of leadership, technical, management, contingency, operational and staff positions; initially working in aircraft maintenance (4+ yrs); then in Civil Engineer Units to include Engineering (Drafting/Surveying/Inspection), Environmental, Emergency Management, and Construction/Facility/Utility Operations .
His last job in Hawaii had him on the road for a week or more every month throughout the Pacific (Alaska, Japan, Korea, Guam, etc.) as well as the mainland - the most interesting of which was his time in Palau working with the Navy and AF Civic Action Teams (conducting community construction, apprentice training, medical assistance, and community relations programs).
