I enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 1965, went to So. Vietnam Nov 66 and returned to the U S in Nov '67, finished my enlistment in Sept '68.

I served for a little over 2 years at Minot AFB, ND , 15 months at Goose Bay AFB, Labrador, after basic training in San Antonio and Amarillo, TX. I went into the Air Force the same week that I graduated as I didn't have any plans for college.

Navy, 4 Years
Was on active duty from 1 August 1963 to 1 August 1967. Was in the active reserve for another 8 years. While on active duty served on board the heavy cruiser USS SAINT PAUL (CA-73) for 20 months. The ship was homeported in San Diego. While onboard ship the movie "In Harms Way" was filmed with John Wayne, Kirk Douglas,Burges Meridith, Caroll O'conner and Henry Fonda to name a few movie stars. Otto Preminger directed the film. I was working in the Captains Office when John Wayne and Kirk Douglas came there in between filming. I had a chance to visit with them. The ships crew was invited to the premier of the movie in Hollywood in 1964. In May 1965 I went to staff duty on the Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Force U.S. Pacific Fleet at the Naval Station in San Diego for the rest of my active duty.

Served with the 352nd General Hospital Unit out of the Oakland, CA, Army Base as a cook in the mess section. Stayed in 5 1/2 years and did not re-up due to a move to Oregon in 1970. Left with rank of E-6
