East Newton High School Reunions

Past Reunions:

First-Five Reunion
Location: First-Five Reunion
Details: For Immediate Release Feb. 27, 2015

Monarch Spring, Mo.—“It’s time for the first five graduating classes of East Newton High School to start celebrating their significance,” said Stan Carter, a 1969 graduate of East Newton and chairman of the recently established “First-Five” reunion committee. Carter along with a group of East Newton graduates and their spouses met at the community center here Sunday, Feb. 22.
The group included: Jera Camerer Swartz, Steve Burnett, Karen Kirk Martin, Linda Prier Haught, Bill Hutchens, Stan Carter, and several of their spouses.
“When we walked into the new building in January of 1969 as the reorganized old Triway and Granby Schools, we immediately became lasting friends,” he noted. “And without hesitation, we accepted the challenges and responsibilities of our new identity as one big family.”
The group noted that although there have been class reunions and some group reunions over the years, they believe those first five classes were particularly important in setting the tone for future students. “We were the first through those doors, and I think the students there today, studying for their future, need to hear how successful we have become and how much we still care about each other and East Newton Schools,” Carter added.
Carter and his team are organizing East Newton High Schools “First-Five” reunion to be held on the Saturday of Labor Day, September 5th, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the high school. They are planning to serve a meal at a nominal cost at the reunion. And, agree that the main purpose is for those “pioneers” to get together, swap stories, and renew the wonderful bonds formed when they were suddenly thrown together at East Newton’s infancy.
They hope to get as many as 200 graduates and their guests to attend the event which they call, “a gathering to celebrate our lives and friendships.”
