Is presently serving in the Marine Corps. Has one year of inactive reserve and four years active duty. I served in Operation Iraqi Freedom for seven months where I injured my knee and was sent home five months early. I was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina for four years. I am currently stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma and will be here for the next three years.

Ulysses Wesley Mays (SGM RET) was born in Brooklyn,New York and raised in Little Rock, South Carolia. Certainly, growing up and working in the hot tobacco fields of South Carolina, taught him discipline and the value of organization and hard work. He recieved his early childhood education in the South Carolina public school system graduating from Dillon High School-home of the "Dillon Wildcats" in 1978. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Excelsior College in Albany, New York. He is currently working on his Masters in Leadership Management from Webster University. Throughout his distinguished military career he served in numerous locations around the world-Beligum, Germany, Turkey, Africa, Korea, Texas,Maryland, The White House, and Kansas to name a few. He is a tested and proven leader, a combat Soldier, and a recipient of the coveted Bronze order of Mercury for excellent in the Signal world. While assigned to Fort Riley, Kansas, Sergeant Major Mays was awarded the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal for his outstanding volunteer work both on and off the installation. In July 2008 he retired from the military, culminating a distinguished career of more than thirty years of dedicated service to the United States of America. Mr. Mays currently serves as the treasurer of the Fort Gordon Credit Union Augusta, Georgia, the Vice President of the Augusta Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen,Vice President of the Fort Gordon Sergeants Major Association, and a life time active member of the Buffalo Soldiers of America. Mr. Mays spends his free time writing, traveling, doing volunteer work and just enjoying all that life has to offer!
