National Guard, 6 Years
I was in the Army National Guard based in Dawson. I joined while in my senior year and chose a delayed entry program. I left for Army basic training in Fort Leonard Wood Missouri right after graduation. I trained and earned a wheeled vehicle mechanic MOS and returned to Dawson to my Unit that fall. I then cross-trained to the field artillary MOS of 13B. I served as truck driver, assistant gunner, gunner and Section Chief during my time. I was promoted to the level of E5 Sergeant and also served in the E6 Staff Sergeant position while waiting for a "time in grade" promotion. I took an Honorable Discharge in 1985 after moving to Texas. I served 2 years inactive reserve and recieved my letter of intent to call me up to serve in the first Gulf war, however, I was never deployed.
