Class of 1961
Air Force, 5 Years
Assigned to the Tactical Air Command (TAC) and Strategic Air Command (SAC) in the United States Air Force. I was attached to the U.S. Air Force 10th Air Base Wing, Reconnaissance Group, part of a three man crew in RB-66s. RB-66 is a two engine jet converted from a bomber to reconnaissance aircraft early in the Viet Nam conflict. My major responsibility involved aerial reconnaissance, flying at high altitudes taking photographs of terrain, geography, tracking weather and strategic military targets. Additional responsibility included photo interpretation and intelligence gathering for tactical and strategic deployment of men and material. My assignments were all over the world and included; Hawaii, Thailand, Philippines, Italy, Spain, England, Germany, Iceland, Bermuda, Greenland, Scotland, Texas and California.

Army, 2 Years
My MOS was 52E40, which was repairing & maintaining Emergency Power Equiptment, (Gas Turbines, Diesels Engines). I went to 3 Different Schools in Fort Belvoir, Va. in a six month period & graduated in the top 3 in each class and was promoted in rank after each class, for graduating in the top 3 of each class. I wound up being an E5 (Specialist 5th Class) with only 8 months in the Army, I was lucky they put me in a field that was very easy for me to accelerate in, being the Metal Head i was in High School, i was also lucky in the fact that of the 125 men i went to school with, only 2 of us didnt go to VietNam, i wound up going to Germany and got to see all of Europe in my 16 months there and it was Great!
