Attended Class A Quartermaster(navigation) school after boot camp in San Diego. Transferred to Commander 7th Fleet posted in Japan and on board USS Providence CLG-6 for 1 1/2 years, 7th Fleet transferred to USS Oklahoma City CLG-7. At end of two year tour transferred to staff of USS Providence as head of Navigation Division to finish 4 years of service.
During 2 years with Commander 7th Fleet we were in waters of Vietnam every month and saw combat off the shores and in other locations
