Marine Corps, 3 Years Enlisted in the Marine Corps in late 1967. Went on activity duty in January 1968. following boot camp at Parris Island and advanced infantry training at camp Lejeune, I was sent to the Defense Inforrmation School to a basic military journalist course. Finishing as the top Marine in the course I received a meritious promotion to Lance corporal and asssigned to the Parris Island public affairs office as a writer on the Boot newspaper. After about 10 months at the paper, I met with a career counselor and volunteered to be sent to Vietnam on the condition that I be sent to the Broadcast Journalism at the Defense Information School. Following graduation I was sent to Camp Pendleton for a Vietnam orientation course. After the course, I was sent to Vietnam in 1969 August as a member of MACV and part of the American Forces Vietnam Network as a radio and television newscaster at the main station in Saigon. In January, I was assigned to Detachment 6 of AFVN which was in II CORPS at an Air Force base located on the South China Sea near the village of Tuy Hoa.During my Vietnam tour I was promoted to Sergeant. Returning to the states in September 1970, I was assigned to the 11th Marine Corps District Headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas where I spent my last in Decemberlast few months in uniform.
