Air Force, 20+ Years

I started my AF career at Lacklund AFB for basic training, then went to Minot AFB in North Dakota, and worked In launch control facilities. From Minot I went to Ching Chuan Kang AFB in Taiwan where we did a lot back up during the pull out of Viet Nam. Then I went to Ellsworth AFB at Rapid City, SD. I got back to Missiles and was very Happy to do so my forte so to speak. From Rapid City I went to Korat AB Thailand where we were shutting down for pull out we got Korat shut down ahead of schedule even though we were shot at planes were hit during landings and take offs the Thai's did not want us to leave and they thought they could stop us with their pea shooters. From there I followed the air wing to Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, where we could actually fry an egg on the wing of an aircraft. Nellis AFB was the home of Red Flag traing, we had pilots and aircraft from all over the world come to train for everything from air to air combat, bombing, and survival. I got a real good vision of the Air Forces mission while stationed there. Even though I really liked it at Nellis I finally got a set of orders for Whiteman AFB, Missouri. We were about an hours drive east of Kansas City, and I was finally back in my element of Minuteman III missiles. While there the Department of Defense, the President, and congress decided to invest in the future of the free world and invest in the Ground Launched Cruise Missile system. From Whieman I went to Raf Greenham Common in the United Kingdom, were I was only the Third enlisted person on base to help get this new weapons system started up. We all worked a lot of really long hours become the first operational wing and I had the honor of being a major part of it. Thank goodness we never had to use it. Everyone knows how accurate the cruise missile is that was proven in Kuwait and Iraq. England was great it was just like being in Worthington during the 1950's and 1960's. From there I went Homestead AFB just south of Miami, Fla, thought maybe I would retire there but quickly discovered that I had no desire to live in Miami. So I came back to the middle of the country and settled in Kansas City. I am still a Twins and Vikings fan which is really hard in KC with the Royals and the Chiefs.
