Enlisted 1962-1966. AFSC 273350B SAGE radar control operator. After tech school in Mississippi I was stationed in Newburg, New York and then transferred to Corvallis, Oregon. My final two years I was assigned to the Base Gymnasium where I had a great job as a Recreational Specialist which allowed me to participate in and dedicate my time to various sporting activities. After being discharged I used my Air Force GI Bill Benefit to attend Oregon State University and graduated in 1970 with a BS in Business and a minor in science.

I served in the U.S. Army from 1981 - 1987. I completed my Basic Training at Fort Dix, NJ and my AIT at Fort Jackson, SC. My permanent duty station was at Fort Belvoir, VA. My job was a 71L ( Administrative Specialist) and my rank when I got out was an E-5 or Sergeant. I was in charge of Student Enlisted Personnel.

1964-1972 Russian Linguist in Berlin, Germany and Northern Japan. When I was at WCHS, it took me 4 years to finally pass 2 years of German from Mr. Boehm. So, the USAF, in their infinite wisdom, sent me to Indiana Univ. for a year of Russian immersion training. Go figure.

I worked as an electronics Technicon on two different continues wave radar units for four batteries of the HAWK (Homing All the Way Killer) missile system. I was station around Soul Korea from June 1968 – July 1969. I finished my obligation to uncle Sam at that time.

Drafted in 1966 and immediately told I was going to RVN. They were right. Served in RVN and promoted to Staff Sargent in 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red ‘Bloody’ 1). Awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart and Bronze Star amongst others. Finished my obligation at 3rd USA Military Academy, Ft. McClellan, Alabama as instructor while fulfilling my tour of duty to military and country.
