WILLIAM A WIRT MUST REMAIN

Hi Gary School Board Member my name is Dwayne Carter. I represent William A Wirt Alumni against the closing of our schools in miller and the changing of the name
William A Wirt to Ralph Waldo Emerson. I went to Wirt in the late 70’s when there was 1000+ student in the old building. Why can’t both programs co-exist in the same building? The name William A Wirt must remain. If this was Roosevelt or Westside this would not be considered, because there alumni are strong and mobilized. Well we are to. Miller is one of the safest communities in Gary. I currently have nieces and nephews that go to school out here and we think that it is a problem. You board members have no regard for our schools legacies. I don’t believe in the history of Gary has there been an act of school building name changes the way you people have done with our schools in miller. You changed Kennedy King now you want to change Wirt. We understand that there is a budget problem. Well don’t you think it makes since to put both programs in the building. It sounds to us like some people have some personal agenda’s hear. You’re going to come up against major opposition with this name change issue. THE NAME WILLIAM A WIRT MUST REMAIN.
