55 years in a paragraph - Charmaine Mueller Iversen

Hi 55th Reunion Members!
...not sure if this is the appropriate place to share 55 years in a blink, but here goes anyhow. After graduation from Johns Hopkins (quite a feat then – given women were not permitted in the undergrad program, while working during the day, I attended JHU full time as a Summer and Evening student to earn my BS., became a Special Ed teacher in Baltimore, then Texas. Fast forward many decades, a career change, and moving to Washington DC, I retired from the US Department of State, where I founded a Department-wide program in support of accessibility by US citizens with disabilities to information and technology stateside and overseas. It was very rewarding to share Department accessibility concepts and practices nationally as well as in Europe and Asia, from a seed that germinated many decades ago in Baltimore.
My son, William, was married July 2017. Thus far, I have no grandchildren. Home maintenance continues and somehow seems like an extended career – especially the garden – weeds have no respect for retirement! A condo is tempting, but I’m not quite there, yet.
I’ll miss seeing you at our 55th Reunion, but extend my best wishes to all of our classmates!!!
Charmaine (Charmaine Mueller Iversen)

New Author Jackie Gaines '75!

Hi Everyone!
Today I hold in my hand my very first published book "Believing You Can
Fly". I cannot tell you the excitement I feel in seeing it in print
after almost a year of birthing pain. It won't be available in stores
for probably another month, however, if you would like to order
....here's the information:

Contact:
Dorrance Publishers at 1-800-788-7654 Book sales department. Tell them
the title of the book and my name: Jacquelyn Gaines

This book follows my career journey as one of the few minority women in US history to run a health system. My journey has been filled with challenges both as a woman and as a person of color. Through vivid storytelling, significant events reveal lessons for those who aspire to reach higher goals in their life even though the challenges may appear insurmountable. My story also reveals the underbelly of the health care industry that many choose not to see. Maintaining courage, integrity and believing in yourself against the odds are proven to be the ingredients for success sometimes at a very high personal price.
I chose to share my story so that others can find the strength in themselves to achieve beyond where they ever thought they could go and to demonstrate the power that one individual can make in improving someone’s life.
I have been a leader in the health care industry for over 30 years, starting as a nurse and working my way up to the President & CEO of Mercy Health Partners for Northeast Pennsylvania.

Dear Alumni,
I am writing to request your financial support with getting my daughter, Jasmine Renee Terrell, to this President’s Inaugural celebration. She has this opportunity through her membership in the National Society of High School Scholars. This is an opportunity of a life time for our family because of her great accomplishments in school. In addition, this is monumental moment in time because President elect Barack Obama has become the first African American to sit in this office.
I have been unemployed since August 15, 2008 and it has been very difficult for me to pay for her to attend. The cost for Jasmine to attend this week of the Presidential Classroom is $1200. I want to give my very best to ask for the assistance I need to accomplish what she so deserve for all of her hard work in school and throughout her life. She is 15 years old, was promoted from seventh grade to eight and is now a junior at Western High School. Jasmine has continued to excel in World Government AP course, Spanish III, Chemistry and so on. She has been completing her community service hours and her desire is to give back. There have been numerous invitations from so many colleges across this nation for her to become a student there. This opportunity will complete such an important step to her becoming one of the most influent
