My grandfather, Roy Hines graduated from Vallejo High School in 1943 I believe. He played on the school's basketball team. I remember him showing me his red and white basketball uniform when I was a kid. He was drafted after High School and served in the Army. He fought in WWII during the Battle of the Bulge and was a machine gunner for the 106 Infantry "Golden Lions", Two of the three regiments of the 106 were captured by German forces during December of 1944, but Roy was in the regiment that wasnt. He saw combat and was later awarded the Bronze Star for his service. He died in 2001 and will be greatly missed.
