Class of 1988

was commissioned in August 1992 after receiving a bachelors degree from Texas Tech University " go red raiders " after graduating ocs (officers candidate school) I attended primary flight school in Pensacola Florida and finished my intermediate training at Randolph afb in san Antonio upon graduation I received the designation off NFO (naval flight officer) and was assigned to the VA-52 knightriders as a bombardier / navigator on the gruman A-6 intruder all weather medium attack aircraft. Serving two consecutive see duty tours making two westpacific cruises completing more that 300 carrier Bourne landings and catapult shots. but an unforseen misshap over the north pacific sea during team spirit the multination sea of Japan war games caused a double engine failure in our aircraft and forced me and my pilot to eject into near freezing seas. Thus ending my career with combat jets. I was grounded until the a-6 was decommissioned in 1996 and re- assigned as an instructor pilot back in Pensacola where I subsequently was promoted to the rank of lieutenant commander same as an air force major and remained there until for family reasons I resigned my active commission in 1999. I still serve In the reserves as a sensors officer and commanding officer for VP-61 out of NAS new Orleans under the rank of commander. Hopefully this January I will be selected for captain which would call for return to active duty at least one year and upon completion I will be eligible for full retirement benefits should I decide not to stay. I think that will depend if I feel flag rank is in my future or not. But most importantly I would like to say my appreciation to all alumni who are or have served the job I do would NOT be possible without the outstanding and continued efforts of both the men and women under my command and all servicemen alike thank you for your service to our great nation
