Enlisted April 1975 on DE program went active Sept 7, 1976 Basic: Ft Knox, KY, AIT: Ft McClellan, AL: Served in FRG @ Patch bks, HQEUCOM till 1979 then active USA @ Kpt, TN until 1981, then back to FRG @ Tompkins bks till 1984 and back to Kpt, TN as active TANG till 1987. Worked as an MP, Truck driver, small arms expert, MOP, MAB's, combat engineer, TOPO as well, Air Assault, training @ Ft Campbell, Ft Bragg, Ft Benning, Ft Lee, also extensive training in Germany. French Commando, SSG and then OCS.

Having spent five years in the Air Force, Rick joined the Navy Reserve for five years while living in Kingsport. In 1984 the Navy offered him a position working with the Reserves as a Res First Officer were he would be active Navy working at Reserve Centers to help ensure the Reservist pay and duty time were handled properly. He retired in 1999 to South Carolina.
