Class of 1971
Coast Guard, 20+ Years
Entered the Coast Guard Reserve in July 1974 and later entered into active duty in November 1977. Served in a number of general administrative assignments until 1980. Qualified and assigned as a Military Civil Rights Counselor/Facilitator (1980-1983). Completed training and assigned as a Personnel Records Auditor (1983-1991). Was the first female assigned to the Tactical Law Enforcement Team in Miami (1991-1994). Officer Manager at the Seventh Coast Guard District Legal Office (1994 -1997). Last assignment as Assistant Gender Policy Advisor (1997-1998). Received the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, two Commandant’s Letters of Commendation, five Coast Guard Good Conduct Awards, the 1993 Roy Wilkins Meritorious Service Award, as well as other unit, service and community awards.

A resident graduate of National Defense University, Industrial Colloege of the Armed Forces in 1986. Was an Air Attache to the US Embassy, Manila, Republic of the Philippines and a Director of Intelligence at the Defense Intelligence Agency. A Vietnam veteran 1967-68 and Gulf War I in 1991.

Our Joel Elias Spingarn High School military alumni are some of the most outstanding people we know and this page recognizes them and everything they have done!
