After High School my brothers and I followed in our parent’s footsteps— both were college graduates. Living away from home was an economic challenge for our family so in my junior year, at the suggestion of a family friend who had been in the Air Force, I applied to the Army Nurse Corps as a student. The Army paid tuition and living expenses at Fresno State College. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (1962). Upon graduation, I received orders to Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX for basic training. Then my new orders were to Letterman General Hospital in the Presidio of San Francisco. 13 years later I resigned at the rank of Captain and am a Veteran.
