Do you remember 1980?
- In what is known as the Miracle on Ice, an out-matched team of college kids making up Team USA defeats the Soviet Union in the semifinals of the 1980 Winter Olympics. The Soviets were heavily favored, had defeated the US team earlier in the year and had also beaten an NHL All-Star Team. The US went on to win gold.
- Mt. St. Helens erupts in the state of Washington, spreading ash halfway across the United States and causing $3 billion dollars worth of damage.
- The Cable New Network is launched, ushering in an era of 24-hour news.
Do you remember 2000?
- Charles Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts comic strip with the lovable Charlie Brown, passes away.
